Why search engine marketing is required: a look backward

Twenty years ago if you asked someone what is meant by the term "search engine marketing, the answer you would get might be a blank stare and perhaps a tentative answer on using engines to market something? These days, however, the answer would be quite different.

Marketing search term was first proposed by Danny Sullivan, editor of Search Engine Land (a blog covering news and information on research engines and marketing) in 2001 as a term to cover all relevant activities. This method of Internet marketing that seeks to promote websites to the top pages of search engine results (SERPs) for a search warrant granted or queries, and provides a method extremely profitable to promote your business via the Internet. Approximately one third of online shoppers use search engines to find what they need, and when a user has a good experience with a time of first site, they will most likely become returning customers. This makes the Internet a vast market exploit.

However, things have not always been so. The Internet has not always been the wealth of information and Shop online as it is today. The Web search engine was first introduced in 1993, an engine wall Wandex (now defunct).

When Wandex appeared, others follow suit. Aliweb has also been published in 1993, and WebCrawler in 1994. WebCrawler was the first engine to enable the users to do word searches in any Web page – is now common practice for search engines modern. In January 1995, Yahoo! Was launched (an interesting fact – his name was chosen by the designers as they liked the definition of it – "rude naive, crude, "as written in Gulliver's Travels by Jonathan Swift). 1998, held the launch of MSN Search (now known as Live or LiveSearch), then 2000, Google appeared.

Google was seen as a refreshing change, most engines offered the same content to several times, without discrimination, so often the results of relevant research. Google is always looking for qualified content as relevant as possible for the application user, and therefore are constantly changing their algorithms (a sequence of instructions for completing a task, in that case the exploration research results) to make them more relevant. This means that users will receive better search results for their search term (s). In addition, Google has always maintained a minimalist approach to their interface, unlike companies such as Yahoo! And MSN incorporating their engines in a web portal, to make them slightly more difficult to use and navigate by the user.

With Google constantly evolving and maturing, more in addition to search traffic has been diverted from the engines to take advantage of its search results more relevant and accurate. In May 2008, it was announced the Google.com domain name has attracted at least 135 million U.S. visitors this month alone. Google now controls on average 80% of online search traffic the United Kingdom.

With this important line of the engine, it is not surprising that the demand for search engine marketing has increased alongside her. However, this is not just a question of creating a website and put online, and there is much work needed to obtain a website to rank well. This work is best done by a professional search engine marketing company.

The role of such a company is to optimize and promote a website to increase traffic and improve sales – this is of course the bottom line of all marketing methods across the board. This is often called Search Engine optimizied, or SEO – improving the quality and quantity of traffic generated on a site ranking high in search engine results based on research targeted keywords. It seems that, with the number of users line, and especially those who use Google as my main search engine, search engine marketing is and will continue to be an essential part of the sale online retail.
